rugs aren't cheap.

did you know that?
well i kinda did.
now i really do.
i have been looking and looking and looking for a new rug for our new beautiful floors.
on thursday i spent the entire morning going everywhere i could think of.
i went to lowes & home depot.
lowes had some great options with great prices.
this one for example.
love it, love the pattern.  wrong colors.
love the simplicity of this one, but not cushy enough for our living room.
this one is nice too....but still not totally in love with the pattern.
maybe i need to quit being so dang picky.
but if i'm gonna spend the money, i want to love-love-love it.
my friend ruth lee always said, when shopping ask yourself, "does it wow me?" if not, put it back.
i have used that advice many times.
i've also gone back & forth on the shag rug thought.
i love this white-ish one.
i also checked out the big Oops! warehouse.
they had a ton of rugs.
unfortunately they were all ugly.
i had very high hopes for t.j. maxx.
seriously????
this was their rug selection.
ummmm, no thank you.
moving on. . .
i finally found this rug at target.

i love the pattern.
i love that it makes a statement...such a fun focal point.
love the colors.  chocolate brown, red, teal = perfect.
size= not so perfect.
it's a 5X7 and it just looks too small for this room.
my mom suggested layering the rugs which is a great idea.
layla at the lettered cottage did it here.
however, it's already at the top of my price range so i can't really afford to buy another rug as well.
i actually bought it friday and returned it sunday.
i've searched online as well. . .pottery barn, ebay, crate and barrel, rugsusa.com, jcpenney, craigs list, etc.
and i have found some that i really like.
this for example:
and this:
which is similar to this from young house love:
this is one of my favorites.  it's from pottery barn.  high-ever, they don't have the right color or the right price.
and finally we have this beauty:
this is a jade tree rug.
the pros are that it's an 8X10, it's super high quality, hand knotted tibetan wool.
the money would go to a cause i fully believe in.
and my dear friend melody  would give me a great price on it.
the cons are that i haven't seen it in person so it's hard for me to really get a feel for it in this picture and . . . i am trying to get away from greens.
i still have to put up with them somewhat b/c our couches are green.
but i'd really like to downplay that fact.

so all in all, i've learned that i'm just going to have to be patient and wait for the right rug to come along.  if i had a grand to plop down on any ol' rug i like, it'd be no problem.
but where would be the fun in that? :)

what about y'all?? any great rug sources i need to check out?  anybody have a link to a really great rug you found?  i'd love to see them. :) Pin It

  1. Have you tried Overstock? Shipping is always 2.95 and sometimes you can get some great buys on rugs. I bought an 8x10 ivory and black zebra print for 150 and I love it.

  2. I think you can order rugs larger from targed from their website.

    Does Big Lots sell rugs?

  5. Sarah,
I was going to say Overstock as well. We got our rug from there, and I LOVE that the price they list is pretty much the price you pay (including shipping). Well, within $3 anyway. :)

I got an 8x10 rug called "Antiquity tan" from there. I love it. Though it's a Persian style rug, the colors are very muted and it works well with a contemporary design style. I saw it on Overstock just now when I was looking, but it's more expensive than when I got it. :(

Make sure you filter down the rugs by including more parameters in your search. For example, look at 8x10 to 9x12 rugs, then filter them by price (under $250 or $250 to $400). That way you're not looking at a thousand rugs at a time. :)

Even though you can't see the rug before you buy it, you can read reviews, and that's helpful.

  6. Why did I forget to mention overstock.com??? We got our big circular rug from them, and I love it. Caveat: Read the consumer reviews closely on each item. Sometimes, they'll give you really good info like, "the border looks more sage than gray in real life" or just a general yay or nay.

You can narrow your search a lot so it's not as overwhelming when you're browsing.
