thrift store thursday and some laundry room cuteness :)

hey guys... so if you're new here....every thursday i try to share my favorite thrift store finds for the week.
if y'all have fun finds to share...link up in the comments so we can all see. :)

okay so my finds this week. . .

i had been looking for a big bulletin board for the laundry room.
i decided i was ready for a clean look for our fridge {after years of having it covered in photos...which i still love....just wanting to enjoy my first ever stainless steel fridge :)}.
so i wanted a big board to put all the photos of our family & friends on.
i found some beautiful ones at home goods that i thought i might go back for but you know, i am so. cheap.

last week i found this really big old bulletin board that looked perfect.
i think it's probably about 2 feet by 4 feet.

i think it may have been in an office or church or something.
it has that berber carpet looking stuff stapled on that reminds me of an old church building.
anyhow, it was only $1.75 so i snatched that baby up.

i dug through my fabric stash and found a linen curtain that would be big enough.
while the kids drove their scooters and bikes around me, i stapled it on.
staplegunning is so fun, isn't it?!

better, but still a little booooring.
yesterday was a rainy, stay inside, kinda day so while the boys watched a movie i dug through my fabric stash again and found some fabric to hot glue on.
i just tore it in strips and glued it around the edge because i knew the pictures would cover the middle.
i also whipped up some little rossettes from an old t-shirt that i had stashed.
{i may or may not have a fabric/material hoarding problem. }

i added the pics and now i smile every time i walk by this sweet little room.

it's so cheery and it definitely makes all the laundering a happier chore.

i also added a white board to the back wall for chores & tasks and reminders.
so handy.

i like to have a little container of some sort handy to throw in treasures that i find in pockets. ;)
i've washed many a race car, rock & lego.

i put all our extra magnets & photo magnets on the side of the dryer so that ruby has something to drag out and make a big mess out of while i sort laundry.  :)

so that's our little laundry room that makes this mama so happy. :)

okay a couple more thrifty finds today....

this awesome big ol' metal bin.
anytime i find a metal bin, i grab it up.
they are so handy and i love the industrial vibe.
this one is 2 feet wide so really roomy....not sure if it's going to the booth or staying here.....

some great vintage dishes:
a milk glass loaf pan and pretty floral plates.
i hadn't seen a milk glass loaf pan so i definitely needed that and the plates are for a wall art idea i have in mind for the kitchen or dining room. :)

yay for thrifting! have y'all found anything fun lately??
{if there's enough interest in sharing thrifted finds, i'll try to start a linky. :) let me know if you'd be interested}.

also** the flea market where my booth is at {All My Treasures} is having a two day sale this weekend...everything in the whole store is 10% off on saturday and sunday. so if you've been thinking of dropping by, this weekend is the time!! :)

my thoughts on craig's list.

so....craig's list and i are bff's lately.
this move has made us super tight.

i have been buying and selling like a mad woman lately.
i sell stuff so that i have money to buy stuff.
it is awesome.

every night when aj and i are sitting in bed doing super spiritual stuff like watching parks and rec on the laptop, i am at the same time scrolling craig's list on my phone.
i am stalking my own items to make sure they sell and also scrolling through to see what awesomeness i can buy for our new house.

is it just me or has the spam gotten outta control lately??
good gravy. give it a rest.

i've gotten some amazing gems like this one:

"wat size are dresses n skirts"

yep. that was the entire email.
not sure if that was spam or just the downfall of the education system in america.

i usually get 2 or 3 phishing for my email with really clever emails like:

"Cry me a river if u are fake and if u are not a fake I am sorry just reply back to my real email"
ummm...yeah right.
sometimes they have rude expletives just to try to get a response and usually at least one word spelled wrong.
pass.

also sometimes you find some amazing posts like this one:

"i have a awesome shirt it is yellow ans has no stains brand new and it say on the back on the top "rebel spirit" and it has alot more things done to it to make it look awesome you will have to see it to understand me!! so if you call i will send pictures it is a medium and the brand is "rebel spirit"

yep. and they are asking $25.
sounds about right.

i am more than willing to put up with these shenanigans to find great pieces and make some money to buy said pieces.

in fact last week, i found this awesome antique, chippy bookshelf with original casters from a girl in our same neighborhood.

so the moral of my story is this:

get the craig's list app.
wander around your house or garage and take pics with your phone of stuff you're tired of or don't need.
list it in about 3 minutes flat.
make some dollas.
find some gems.
steer clear of the spammers....i.e. any email that doesn't say the item in the email or just generally sounds weird.
reap the rewards.
the end.

God speed.

thrift store thursday

i have some fun thrifty finds to show you this week!

if you have not caved to the addiction that is thrifting, you need to.
c'mon. all the cool kids are doing it.

okay first up.... the butterflies that i showed you last week.....with a fresh coat of glossy spray paint.

i loved your color suggestions, but i decided to go the free route and just use the spray paint i had on hand. ;)

next up....my sis-in-law's beautiful fabric art.
she loaded me up with some fun new pieces for the booth.
i love them.

the kids and i popped into good will a few days ago just to do a quick treasure scan. :)
the boys picked out a bag full of floam which i happily paid $1 for.
that's quiet time i'm buying right there. :)
worth every penny.

i also found this jacket for sissy that i had to have.
the end and amen.
this pic doesn't do the red tweedy perfection justice.

it's a 3T but i knew i would be happy to hang onto this beauty for a few years.

today i drove a couple of towns over to go to my favorite antique/flea market, daisies & olives.
it is seriously a feast for the eyes.
i love going there.

there are so many beautiful antiques, vintage pieces and handmade items.
and it's constantly changing so there's always fun new things to see.

this is my kinda store. completely.

yes, i wanted to buy everything.
but i only bought one thing.
see that sassy dresser up there?
she will be coming home with us on saturday. :)
hoo. ray.

i've been scouring craig's list for a big dresser or buffet to put our tv on and hold all our junk.
this is perfect.
i am so pumped.

it's so fun to finally see our little house start coming together.
little by little. :)

happy thursday, y'all. Pin It

thrift store thursday is back!

with kansas thrifting for the win.

while we were in kansas for a few days over spring break, i had to run into my favorite thrift stores.
they're called "the Etc. shop" and they are so cheap!
i always grab up a bunch of stuff to bring back to the booth.

i didn't find a ton but i did find these beauts . . .

i always keep my eye out for good vintage suitcases when i'm thrifting.
i sent the dark olive green/ brownish one to the booth and kept the others at home.
they may eventually go too, but i'm holding them back in case i find a place for them here.

i also found a few little doo-dads.

the butterflies will be spray painted . . . what color??

floral tin that smells like my grandma.
i always grab a good wood frame.
the photo is too bright but this lovely apron is beautifully detailed.
i'm a sucker for a vintage apron.
that jar is my kind of happy.
i will be keeping it. :)

vintage badminton racket.

vintage needlepoint set.

tie for aj and silver dish for me.

i happily paid $1 each for these amber glasses to keep.
so pretty.

okay that's it for today....what have y'all found lately?

i love pinterest and online shopping.

hi y'all.  :)

it's a homeschool day today.
not much unpacking getting done but that's okay.
all in good time. :)

our first day doing school in the new house has gone great.
and we only have 7 weeks left.
yay. hoo.

news flash: the weather says high of 66 on easter sunday.
i will take it.
yes. please.
it has snowed several days this week so i will take a sunny 66.

in other news, i made this super duper yum crockpot potato soup last weekend.
all six of us loved it so it's a keeper.
it was perfect for a snowy spring day. ha.

i just ordered this shower curtain.

i. love. it.
like seriously, it makes me so happy.
should a shower curtain make you this happy?
maybe not.
i'm okay with it. :)

do you dig it? free shipping through the end of march, fyi.

okay, gotta get back to the peeps.
finley and i have a date with little house in the big woods.....

thrift store thursday

i realized this morning that i am weird.
i am giddy with excitement on thursday mornings when i get to go to the thrift store and shop by myself.
that's weird, right?
but i love it.

we have the best thrift store.
seriously.
they have a cool pricing system where everything gets marked down every few days.
so nothing stays stagnant and you can get amazing deals.
i can hardly go in a good will or salvation army anymore because their prices are so ridiculous.
i like a garage sale type price.
i.e. i want to pay a quarter. :)

on thursday mornings, the items that were half off, go down to 50 cents.
and i'm not the only lunatic, there's always a line of people waiting for the doors to open at 9.
i see many of the same faces every week.

some days i score a ton, others, not so much.
i didn't walk away with a lot this morning but i did get a super cool vintage projector for  . . . wait for it . . . 50 cents.
boom.

a high like that is why i keep coming back.
love it...and here's a strange fact for you, other than thrifting, i don't really enjoy shopping at all.
okay mostly i just don't like clothes shopping. such a pain.

speaking of clothes, i did find this fun jacket last weekend at the thrift store.

{selfies are so awkward}

i went back and forth because it wasn't on sale yet but i finally decided that it would be fun for our date we had last weekend.
so i went ahead and forked over the six bucks for it.
then to the thrill of my soul, i googled it and found out that it's from anthropologie.
six dollars doesn't seem so bad after all. ;)

also, earlier this week, i picked up these cutie little bowls.

they're from starbucks...didn't know starbucks made bowls.....
but they're a perfect little cereal or ice cream size.
cute. :)

okay friends...those are my thrifted finds for the week....have y'all found anything good??

monday funday

i got approximately 1294 cyber monday emails this morning.
so i guess i better get to shopping.

did you do black friday?
i did not.
i cannot handle that crazy.
and honestly all the people fussing on facebook about how they didn't get the tv they wanted turned my stomach.

let's take one giant step back, people.
geesh.

however, i do think i could be persuaded to go out with some girlfriends if i had coffee and snacks and could just do a lot of people watching.
i can see how that would be fun...maybe.

i am going to try to do some online shopping today.
it's our last day of no homeschooling so i better make hay while the sun shines.
also, if i can get some christmas shopping done from the comfort of my own home, in my sweat pants, without dragging four kids into a store, that would be awesome.

have y'all decorated for christmas?
we did yesterday and i love how happy and cozy a home looks at christmastime.
i'll take some pictures for you soon.

one last thing....if you have Jesus Calling...read it today.
it's so good.
"walk with me along the high road of thanksgiving."
"Rejoice in this day that I have made, for I am your steadfast Companion."

so thankful that Jesus is my steadfast companion.
I need Him so much.

have a great day, friends!

rugs aren't cheap.

did you know that?
well i kinda did.
now i really do.
i have been looking and looking and looking for a new rug for our new beautiful floors.
on thursday i spent the entire morning going everywhere i could think of.
i went to lowes & home depot.
lowes had some great options with great prices.
this one for example.
love it, love the pattern.  wrong colors.
love the simplicity of this one, but not cushy enough for our living room.
this one is nice too....but still not totally in love with the pattern.
maybe i need to quit being so dang picky.
but if i'm gonna spend the money, i want to love-love-love it.
my friend ruth lee always said, when shopping ask yourself, "does it wow me?" if not, put it back.
i have used that advice many times.
i've also gone back & forth on the shag rug thought.
i love this white-ish one.
i also checked out the big Oops! warehouse.
they had a ton of rugs.
unfortunately they were all ugly.
i had very high hopes for t.j. maxx.
seriously????
this was their rug selection.
ummmm, no thank you.
moving on. . .
i finally found this rug at target.

i love the pattern.
i love that it makes a statement...such a fun focal point.
love the colors.  chocolate brown, red, teal = perfect.
size= not so perfect.
it's a 5X7 and it just looks too small for this room.
my mom suggested layering the rugs which is a great idea.
layla at the lettered cottage did it here.
however, it's already at the top of my price range so i can't really afford to buy another rug as well.
i actually bought it friday and returned it sunday.
i've searched online as well. . .pottery barn, ebay, crate and barrel, rugsusa.com, jcpenney, craigs list, etc.
and i have found some that i really like.
this for example:
and this:
which is similar to this from young house love:
this is one of my favorites.  it's from pottery barn.  high-ever, they don't have the right color or the right price.
and finally we have this beauty:
this is a jade tree rug.
the pros are that it's an 8X10, it's super high quality, hand knotted tibetan wool.
the money would go to a cause i fully believe in.
and my dear friend melody  would give me a great price on it.
the cons are that i haven't seen it in person so it's hard for me to really get a feel for it in this picture and . . . i am trying to get away from greens.
i still have to put up with them somewhat b/c our couches are green.
but i'd really like to downplay that fact.

so all in all, i've learned that i'm just going to have to be patient and wait for the right rug to come along.  if i had a grand to plop down on any ol' rug i like, it'd be no problem.
but where would be the fun in that? :)

what about y'all?? any great rug sources i need to check out?  anybody have a link to a really great rug you found?  i'd love to see them. :) Pin It
