snow dayzzzzz

we have had *so much snow* this winter.
craziest thing ever.
i guess the groundhog and the persimmon seed were right.
this is a very wintery winter.
especially for the south.
i don't think we've had a good snow in 3 years.
i guess we needed to make up for that.

this current round o' snow.....winter storm maximus, i'm told..... has been so. pretty.
it started while we were in church yesterday and was pretty much a winter wonderland by the time we made our 5 mile trek home.
it's that super powdery, big flakes, with sunny skies...perfect kind of snow.

although a bunch of our fun plans for yesterday were cancelled, it did turn out to be a perfectly lovely day of staying at home and cozying up with my faveys.

today was a sunny day and not too cold so the kids and i decided to take a trek back behind our house for some snowy adventure.

there are woods and a creek behind our house.
the boys kept saying, "it's narnia!"

one of our favorite things is outdoor exploring so this was just bliss.
ruby is happiest outside so she was pumped to be out in the snow.

we tasted a little bit of that perfect looking snow, but not too much since the last big snow we had this winter, finley ate so much of it that he got a stomach ache.
#lessonlearned

we were so excited to make it to the creek.
sawyer really wanted to get in it.
i took that as a teaching moment on why we don't get in creeks in the winter. :)

we spent a good while down there throwing snowballs into the creek.
i had a death grip on the back of ruby's coat but she did still manage to face plant it in the snow once.
luckily, she was so happy out there that it didn't phase her much. :)

this was the best snow day.
the only thing that would have made it better was to have AJ home.
but i cannot complain...it was a really great day.
plus my sweet neighbor took the boys sledding for an hour in the afternoon so they got sledding fun and i got some sweet quiet time.
i'm sure the extra vitamin D today didn't hurt either. :)

and just to give you a smile on this cold winter's night....i am going to humble myself and show you my hot mama snow outfit.

oh yes. hot-tay.
AJ's ginormo pants {no, my legs are not that big} stuffed into my winter boots.
80's-tastic coat.
scarf hanging out.
men's gloves.
not pictured here: my giant bug-eye sunglasses.
i was a sight to behold.
thankfully, only my kids, neighbor kandice & the birds got to see this special look.
......and now the internets. you're welcome. your night is now complete. :)
sweet dreams.....

instafriday

happy march first!!!!
let's do this, shall we?

oh man, y'all, this week has been so much better.
last week was one of the longest weeks i can remember.
i kept reminding myself that the hard weeks make the easy weeks so much sweeter.

i finally took myself back to the doctor and he gave me antibiotics and steroids.
yay. hoo.
he is now my best friend.
i felt so much better by that night and finally feel myself again.
i am soooo thankful for modern medicine.

okay so let's see here...the last two weeks in instas....

most of my pics from last week we are in our pj's....which is how we lived all week.

these two big boys helping me with ruby are such a blessing.
ruby was sicky and fussy but still very busy and wanting to be entertained.
those boys were my saving grace.

santa hat.
this girl won't keep a bow on to save her life but she will wear a hat for hours.
she kept pulling it down over her face and walking around laughing.
such a hoot.

a sweet friend brought us all fruit popsicles.
now that's thinking right there.
sissy is a big fan.
i need to remember to do that for people who are sick.
brilliant.

this was in walmart last week.....of course.
it was barely sprinkling out side.
she put a sack over her head.
and she put her purse in a bag.
wow. people are funny.

i am the girl who never ever ever has an umbrella.
who has time to mess with that? not this girl.
i have two good legs and i run.
and i have wet hair and probably look like a drowned rat.

snow day popcorn, hot chocolate, and sweet brothers.
love.

last weekend, avery got to go to an overnight, 4th-5th-6th grade retreat.
he was pumped.
it was our first time letting him go overnight to anything outside of our family.
i was nervous but one of their leaders sent us tons of text updates and photos.
that was so great for all the parents.
he had a blast and i am so thankful he got to go.
my baby's growing up....sigh...tear.... ;)

avery and his friend jack are starting a business. ;)
it is so cute.
they are texting each other back and forth (with their mom's phone...NO, my fourth grader does not own a phone) and their texts are so sweet!
this is the first time avery has texted anybody like this so it's really fun to see him growing up a little more.
of course i read every text. obviously.
anyhow, avery is drawing pictures that they plan to copy and sell around school and i guess to family and friends.
i love that they're coming up with this all on their own and being so entrepreneurial. :)

yesterday i got to take Meliyah to be a model for a news snippet for rhea lana's children's consignment sale.
she did such a great job...i was so proud of her.

i have been a busy little bee working at rhea lana's this week.
i can't wait to shop for spring/summer clothes for the kids this weekend!

do you instagram? i'm itsgoodtobequeen if you want to follow along with my weekly shenanigans.

have a great weekend, y'all!

sick day.

you know how in the back of your head you think it might be nice to be sick so you can lay in bed all day and watch movies and drink tea and avoid all your responsibilities?

and then you remember you're a mom and you have to carry on through the sickness because that's what mom's do?

yeah. well that was me yesterday.
then i had a really rough night and AJ felt sorry for me and offered to take the day off work.
cue the hallelujah chorus.

i was at the walk-in clinic at 6:55 this morning so i could be first in line.
and first in line i was.
then was informed that the doctors had a once a month meeting and wouldn't be in until 8:30.
wah. wah.
welp, no matter, i signed my name on that list and settled into the cold waiting room.

good news: i'm totally caught up on the news.
now i remember why i don't watch the news.
also i was able to make some headway in my chronological Bible reading plan.
i'd gotten behind what with all the sickness abounding.
Jesus afforded me some extra reading time. ;)

also, good news, i didn't punch the nurse when she did the nose swab flu test and the stick-a-q-tip-half-way-down-your-throat strep test.
crisis averted.
it should be noted, i feel like i'm mostly a really good patient with needles and such, but i do not prefer, the sticking of q-tips where they don't belong.

anyhoo, positive for flu, so off i went to drive around town to 3 pharmacies to get my script for tamaflu filled.
and then back home to bed.

sooooo thankful that AJ works for a very family company that said, yes! go home and take care of your wife!

also super thankful for sweet friends who go above and beyond to bless us and love on us.
honestly, it makes me realize how far i have to go as a friend and servant of others.
i hope i'm learning.

oh yeah also, just a reminder, staying in bed all day is really not that fun for a busy body like me.
i'm getting a little stir crazay.
but i'm not gonna complain.
AJ is taking care of the kids, brining me food and drink, and generally doting on me.
thank.ful. X1000

okay, guess i better get back to downton.
the dowager countess awaits . . .

p.s. will someone remind me to get a flu shot next year? kthanks. Pin It

in which we really look like homeschoolers . . .

our weather this month has been straight up cray. cray.
one day bitter cold, next day sunny and 60.  i'll take it.
today is warm but windy and rainy with a side of tornado watches.

even though the flux in temps is no bueno for my kiddos' allergies, i have been so thankful for the bits of sunshine to warm my winter weary soul.
i am a summer girl, through and through, so i have to be very intentional to not just wish the winter days away.

when we do have a warm day, you better believe we are all outside, living it up.

even if we're all in pajamas at four in the afternoon.
soooo typical for a homeschool day.

we do get up and get started with our day right away, but i am totally fine with us all staying in our pj's all day if we're not going anywhere.
i think i got myself dressed about 30 minutes before AJ got home so that i wouldn't look like a total scuzz for my man. :)

oh sawyer.
those rain boots that he wears 7 days a week are starting to smell rank.
he said he needs some "church boots" whatever that is so i've been keeping my eye out for a cute pair of cowboy boots.

my sweet, sweet sunshine boy.

i love how these brothers play together.
i am treasuring up these precious moments.

there's no joy like fake cheetos left over from a birthday party.
i will tell you, they are nasty and waxy tasting.
stick with the real deal.
however, my boys gobbled them up until i couldn't stand it any longer and through the bag away.

i love seeing my kids outside and dirty.
just makes my mama heart happy. :)

avery was working on carving a bow.
i love watching him create and work and figure things out.

my heart hurts at how big and old he's looking.

and of course sissy had to run around and get into everything she could get her hands on.

oh my. i love these little ragamuffin kids.

hi, there.

fair warning, this will be all over the place.
i've got thoughts and i want to share them.

#1. today is the last day to enter the No nonsense leggings giveaway.....just leave a comment here: http://www.itsgoodtobequeen.net/2013/01/i-no-no-nonsense-kind-of-girl.html
super simple.
can't wait to see who the winner is! :)

#2.  i do not love it when perfect strangers comment to me in front of my three precious boys, "you finally got your girl" with a huge smile on their faces.
ummm....how am i supposed to respond to that?
almost as helpful as "wow, you've got your hands full!"
i know they mean well...but i am over the moon for my boys and i don't want them getting the message that they were just tryouts until we got the prize.
no, ma'am.

i do however appreciate when sweet people say, "you've got some good helpers."
yes, i do.
they are blessings and i am so happy to have my hands full with them.

#3 last night at dinner, we're doing highs and lows.
i say that my high is having a really nice, peaceful home school day.
i say that my low is sawyer disobeying and throwing fits.
sawyer says, "that's my high."
awesome.

#4 this post Parenting: It's Never An Interruption  is so good.
it's worth the 5 minutes it will take you to read it.
i've been mulling it over and it was just what i needed to read this week.
convicting and reframing my thoughts.

#5  this little beauty has been sick on and off all winter.
hoping she is building up one heck of an immune system.
is it time for spring yet??
we are ready. ;)

#6 so far our home schooling days are going much better this semester.
we seem to have gotten in a really good groove and we're all enjoying it.
i am thankful.

okay i think that's all for now.

happy tuesday, y'all!
meet me back here tomorrow to find out who has a hot pair of leggings heading their way!

what we've been up to

i'm easing back into reality today.
today is the first day i've set an alarm in 2 weeks.
it's been blissful.
i do feel recharged and ready to face this new year.
so thankful for times of rest and relaxation to keep us going.
we all needed it.

our schedule is flooding back in this week.
i am trying to be very intentional about what i say yes to and put on my plate.
last semester was too much and i don't want to do that to myself again.

last week.....

last week we celebrated our avery's 10th birthday.
he asked for a fedora.
he's an old soul like his mama.

we also enjoyed the last of our sweet lazy days with AJ home.
we went bowling and had the best family time.
have i said that i love this little family of mine? i do.
so much.

then it snowed.

so thankful it happened while AJ was home so he could play out there with them and make it really fun.

he pulled them all over this yard on the sleds.
the sleds i've been saving for a year and a half, waiting for a snow.
the boys were so. excited.

we had a very mild winter last year with no snow so the boys have been dreaming of snow.

avery stayed out there most of the day and was even out in the yard in the dark.
even though i would be just as happy as a clam to always have mild winters, i was super happy for avery.

ruby stayed inside cozy warm with her mama. :)

we enjoyed the last of the glow of the christmas tree and then put it all away.
it's always a little sad to put away the decorations.
but it's also nice to feel a little less cluttery for the new year.
i'm sure you all feel that way too.

almost all of us have been sick with one thing or another since christmas.
for a few days i had a cold and a stomach bug at the same time.
not awesome but also not the worst i've ever had.
i do have amazing family who took great care of me.
so thankful for them.
finley loved on me so much and kept bringing me sweet pictures. :)

this weekend aj and i got to go to kansas city by ourselves!
oh my word, it was wonderful.
we were celebrating aj's mom's birthday so we met up with his siblings and parents.
we ate lots of yummy food and had so much time for adult conversation.
we haven't had that much talking time in years.
it was so great.
on the three and half hour drive home, aj and i pretty much talked non-stop.
it was so fun and much needed.
we need to make that kind of time more often.

before we left yesterday, we hit the first friday event in the west bottoms.
it's a thrifters paradise.
building after building full of vintage and handmade.

it was heavenly.
and so fun to walk around with my man.
we talked about booth ideas and house ideas and even picked up a sweet vintage quilt for ruby.

wish we had something like that around here.
i do feel super inspired for my booth and our new house....wherever that may be......

happy monday, y'all! let's make it a great week!
