yummy summer treat

i got this idea from my friend Angela.
she blogged about how to make easy pink lemonade slushies.
so i dusted off our ice cream maker and we got busy.

the boys wanted to do cherry limeade.
i mixed up a limeade frozen concentrate according to the directions & then added cherry koolaide & sugar.
we poured it in the ice cream maker.
they each got a chance to spin it.
15 minutes later, we had slushies.
a perfect after dinner treat.
i can't wait to try it with pink lemonade.
yummy with a capital Y. Pin It

friday randomness . . . again

alternate title: in which you discover what kind of mom i really am.

********************************************************************************
what is up with silly bands???
are they the slap bracelets of 2010?
i don't get it.
but i'm using the craze to my advantage.
[insert evil laugh here]
i bought the one dollar pack and i'm letting them earn them.
one silly band for one chore.
mwaaa ha ha ha ha!
*********************************************************************************
toy story 3 is taking over the world.
it's taking over cereal. it's taking over the post office. it's taking over every possible kid related product.
they are marketing the heck out of that movie.
and yes we did see it on opening weekend.
i'd show you the pic but aj has his eyes closed and i think he'd appreciate it if i left that out.
and i cried at an animated film. stop laughing.

*********************************************************************************

this morning sawyer woke up a little after 6.
typical.
he was kind of fussing a little bit.
i went ahead and hopped in the shower hoping he'd fall back asleep.
when i got out, he was screaming so loud. he sounded mad.
i looked at the clock, it's 10 til 7. i'll go ahead and get him up.
(i make my kids stay in bed until 7 but sawyer gets a little grace since he's the baby)
i walk down the hall & realize he's screaming really loud.
i go in and he has somehow wedged his knee in between the slats on his crib.
like wedged, wedged.
it may or may not have looked a little swolen from his efforts to get it out.
and maybe a little bit red. maybe.
i could not get it out.
visions of having to break the crib were flashing through my head.
but i quickly grabbed his lotion and slathered him up and was finally able to push it out.

sigh. sometimes i feel like a good mom.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

also this morning, all 3 boys were in my big tub in my bathroom.
they were pretending they were cows with the bubbles all over their faces.
then avery says with a big grin on his face,
"hey mom, we have ryhming names.  my name is ducky. fin is yucky and sawyer is f---y."
awesome.  and he kept saying it.
slightly happy that my seven year old is so innocent that he's never even heard that word before.
mostly mortified at hearing that word come out of his mouth.
=======================================================================
last night we were at the park with some friends.
sawyer fell on the play set and busted his lip or gums or something.
his mouth was bleeding all over the place.
avery & finley kept saying he looked like a clown.
and i didn't even clean him up!
i KNOW. the horror!
but, in my defense, i had nothing to clean him with and he only cried when i tried to hold him and comfort him.
he could not be bothered with that, he wanted to go play.
and don't worry it wasn't dripping on the play set.....i don't think.
aj wet wiped him up eventually . . . because people were starting to stare.
********************************************************************************

it looks like we are going to have a calm weekend.
i'm so excited!
first one in months, it seems.
i may even find a yard sale or two to go to if i can.
maybe the farmer's market?
it doesn't matter, as long as i've got my man home.

have a great weekend friends!! Pin It

swim lessons

the week before last, the boys had swim lessons.
this is our 7th year at the swim ranch and we love it.

it was sawyer's first year.
so i was back in the water again for water babies.
sawyer had his lesson at 11.
the boys ate their lunch on the bench & cheered for the little saw buddy.
the one morning AJ could come watch, sawyer was in some kind of mood.
he did not appreciate being restrained, thankyouverymuch.
you see how i find his misery humorous?
bad mommy.

waiting on his cookie.

after his lesson he sat on the bench & ate his lunch while the boys had their lessons.
and also he teetle toddled around and got into one kind of mischeif and another. (if you can name that book you get 400 points) :)
this was finley's first time at swim lessons to jump off the diving board!
if you know my fin, you know what a huge deal that is.

we were so proud of him!
swim lessons make such a huge difference in his confidence.

avery's a little fish.  always has been.

oh and in other exciting news, my kids are no longer swimming in the recycle bin.
oh how i love summer. Pin It

summer art project #3

when i saw the idea for rainbow pudding pops i knew that we would be making those.
plus, it was on our summer list to make popsicles.

it was super easy & fun & the boys loved this project.

if you want to make these, here's what you need:

oh and some super eager helpers as well.
we used the neon food coloring. very fun.

you just follow the pudding directions on the box, separate your pudding into bowls, & add your food coloring.
 like i said, easy.
then you just layer the pudding in your cups.
these paper cups were nice because once the popsicles were frozen, we could just tear off the cup.
next time i will get smaller cups.
i was just using what we had on hand and these made pretty stout popsicles.
plus one box of pudding made exactly 3 squaty pops.
so next time i'll probably  use two pudding packs, more colors & smaller cups.
just an FYI.
you just shove the popsicle stick right in the middle & the pudding will hold it up.
YUM.

let me know if you make these! Pin It

my first race!

yes, we are tough chicks. you know it.

wow, i really never thought i'd do it.
on saturday i ran my first 5K and it was so fun!

for the past couple of years i've ran on and off, here and there.
but i am horrible at sticking with any kind of workout routine.
i have no follow through or will power for that matter.

so i finally took my man's advice and signed up for a race so i would have to train.
i ran with two of my girls from community group, ashley & olivia.

i kept thinking, i'm gonna do the race and then be done with all this running business.
but oh my, that race was so fun!
i loved getting to run with someone else and talk.
and i loved the feeling of realizing we were almost at the finish line and hearing people cheer & clap.
that's so fun!
i didn't grow up in a sports lovin' family so i have never known what that is like.

i like it.

apparently the girl in red wants to say hello as well.

avery was the first one to greet me at the finish line.

i'd like to say that he was shouting "you are awesome" or "great job mom" or "congratulations."
but he was actually just shouting at me over and over that he won first in the one mile fun run.
;)

speaking of . . .

avery ran on saturday as well. (and i cannot believe how tall my son is)
we just decided to let him run that morning.
he. was. stoked.

and he got first place.
which is amazing considering he went off on his own little detour and actually ran more than a mile.
lucky for him most of the people were walking.
and when you're 7 you can do an all out sprint for a mile and it's no big thing.

this picture is classic.
superstud runner olivia got second in our age range.
i got 4th which i was not expecting.  we both ran around 33 minutes.
when we realized were were almost to the finish line she said, "let's sprint!"
she passed the girls ahead of us.
but her very athletic sprint was quite a bit faster than mine.

when i found out i got 4th in our age range, i kept thinking, oh i should have pushed a little harder and i could have got 3rd.
that is dorky.
but that is my competitive nature rising up.
ashley had flown in the night before from LA and was sick and still got 7th.  she's a stud.

at the end they were giving out door prizes.

they were almost done and the next prize was a kid's tractor.
the guy calling out the numbers drew a name out of the hat.
he started to say the number but then he looked over at avery standing there with this hopeful look on his face.
he said oh i meant. . .and read avery's number off his shirt.
avery was beyond excited. (wasn't that so sweet of that man??)
he thought that was his prize for winning 1st place.
shhhhh, we won't tell him they don't actually give places for a fun run/walk.
do you like sawyer in the background stuffing his face full of oatmeal cream pie that is smushed all over the sidewalk? (third child)

i really didn't believe aj when he told me that after one race i'd want to do another.
but i so do.
it was a blast! Pin It

he sure makes my days fun.
