thrift store thursday

thursdays are such a happy day. :)

and today was extra special because i got to hang out with a dear friend and go thrift store shopping with her!
so much more fun with a friend.

i am soooo bummed that i forgot to take a picture with jenny and her cute house.
guess we'll have to have another thrifting date. :)

so, jenny fed me coffee and baked oatmeal and then we headed out thrifting.
jenny lives in the town i grew up in and it's chock full of adorable shops.

my new favorite is vintage accents

{i did not take that picture, i grabbed it from facebook...hope that's okay!}

they had all manner of amazing finds that were totally my style and great prices.
that's hard to find.

fun fact: the owners live in the house i grew up in and have a blog....so i basically get to stare at my old house online and see all the awesome things they are doing to it.  . . . pretty fun.

i picked up these great vintage juice glasses.

they are actually jelly jars but i grew up using the same kind so these make me happy.
the glass is nice and thick and they're skinny so they should be great for the boys to use.

i picked up something else super fun but i can't show you because it's a gift for someone. ;)

after i came back and picked up my littles, we quickly ran into our thrift store for my weekly fix.

the vintage travel clock and big picture frame will go in the booth. . . although i will probably spray paint the frame and put a fun print in it.

i think i'll keep the smaller wooden frame and i'm going to use the wire bin for display in the booth.
can't wait to get back up there and do some fluffing!

if you want to visit my booth....

in which we really look like homeschoolers . . .

our weather this month has been straight up cray. cray.
one day bitter cold, next day sunny and 60.  i'll take it.
today is warm but windy and rainy with a side of tornado watches.

even though the flux in temps is no bueno for my kiddos' allergies, i have been so thankful for the bits of sunshine to warm my winter weary soul.
i am a summer girl, through and through, so i have to be very intentional to not just wish the winter days away.

when we do have a warm day, you better believe we are all outside, living it up.

even if we're all in pajamas at four in the afternoon.
soooo typical for a homeschool day.

we do get up and get started with our day right away, but i am totally fine with us all staying in our pj's all day if we're not going anywhere.
i think i got myself dressed about 30 minutes before AJ got home so that i wouldn't look like a total scuzz for my man. :)

oh sawyer.
those rain boots that he wears 7 days a week are starting to smell rank.
he said he needs some "church boots" whatever that is so i've been keeping my eye out for a cute pair of cowboy boots.

my sweet, sweet sunshine boy.

i love how these brothers play together.
i am treasuring up these precious moments.

there's no joy like fake cheetos left over from a birthday party.
i will tell you, they are nasty and waxy tasting.
stick with the real deal.
however, my boys gobbled them up until i couldn't stand it any longer and through the bag away.

i love seeing my kids outside and dirty.
just makes my mama heart happy. :)

avery was working on carving a bow.
i love watching him create and work and figure things out.

my heart hurts at how big and old he's looking.

and of course sissy had to run around and get into everything she could get her hands on.

oh my. i love these little ragamuffin kids.

a boy and his gun

saturday was a big day for avery.

avery has wanted a bb gun for a long time.
like, years.

AJ and i didn't grow up with guns so we have been pretty slow about this {read: dragging our feet}.

avery had some birthday money to spend and asked if he could get a bb gun.
i was hoping he'd chose the bow and arrow, but that pretty little daisy won out.

he kept saying, "thank you mom, for letting me get this. i didn't know you'd let me."
his sweet thankful heart made it so fun.
i loved watching his joy as AJ taught him all about it.
he had avery read the entire instruction manual and then narrate it back to him.
he thoroughly went over all the rules and how to safely use the gun.
such a good daddy.

our boy was totally in his element and had the most fun.
he talked about it all day and didn't want to put it away.

of course, finley had to get a bb gun lesson too.

after they shot several times, aj taught them some kind of shooting game where you shoot from different angles or something like that.
i had gone inside by that point. ;)

we were both pretty nervous about letting him have a gun at first, but we are so glad we said yes.
their joy made it so worth it.

we truly are blessed with the most sweet, thankful boys.
so happy to get to be their mama.

instafriday

snippets of our life over the last two weeks . . .

i come by my love of thrifting honestly.
my mom loves a good thrift or antique store just as much as i do.
she brought me a whole stack of vintage goodness the other day.
this sweet handkerchief is my fav-o-rite.
clearly that was meant to be ruby's.

she also brought my grandma's cookbook from when she was first married. love.

we tried a new bakery a couple saturdays ago.
piles of cream cheese.
three flavors of whipped cream.
amazing.
oh yes, we will be back.

so happy to have our boys back at providence.
we spend our saturdays watching these sweet  boys play.

sweet vintage plaque in my booth.

poor sissy has been sick on and off and mostly on all winter.
bless her cotton pickin' heart.
we've had our share of hanging out at the pediatrician.

lasagna.
family favorite... i use meg's recipe.

still loving this book.
it's so hard to put down.
i've got to book it to finish by the end of january.

love this cute, snotty girl.
and her belly.

aaaanndd...sick again and back to the peds.

a very long day was rewarded with a date night!!
sushi and talking with my sweet AJ was perfect and such a blessing.
also we got lots of great people watching in at all the college students out on the tizzy.
i was mystified at how it was 19 degrees outside and they were all wearing tiny little sundresses.
cray-zay.

happy home schoolers.
thankful for peaceful days and getting into a routine.

also the milk frother and almond joy creamer just brings me so much joy. :)

ruby loves to play with the magnetic letters . . . as long as they stay put.
when she puts them on backwards and they fall off, she stomps her feet and fusses and tells them what for.

we had a nice library visit this morning right when it opened.
it was super quiet and we had the kids area to ourselves.

okay friends...that's my week in a nutshell.
what have y'all been up to?

link up for phone pics with me here.....

thrift store thursday

welp, it's thursday, so you know what that means.
mama went thrifing.
got my weekly fix.

also, incidentally pulled through krispy kreme and got myself a hot donut as a reward for going to the dermatologist in between my thrifting adventures.
best dollar i ever spent.
that's like a little bit of fluffy heaven in a box.

okay back to the thrifting...stay focused, sara, stay focused!

i didn't get a lot, but what i did get, i love.

numero uno:

do you love her?
i do.
i've been eyeing her and today she was 50% so it was obvious.

vintage floral needlepoint? yes. please.
the hardest thing about thrifting for the booth is that everything i pick out is something i love and want to keep.
this is going to the booth so i will be hauling it up there asap so i don't get any ideas.

vintage. aqua. ball jar with metal handle.
favorite.

and a sweet little puffy vest for sawyer.
he didn't neeeed it per say.
but it was 50 cents.
it would have been wrong not to get it.

what about you guys? been thrifting lately?

if you've blogged about it, i would love to see!  link up in the comments. :)

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

hi, there.

fair warning, this will be all over the place.
i've got thoughts and i want to share them.

#1. today is the last day to enter the No nonsense leggings giveaway.....just leave a comment here: http://www.itsgoodtobequeen.net/2013/01/i-no-no-nonsense-kind-of-girl.html
super simple.
can't wait to see who the winner is! :)

#2.  i do not love it when perfect strangers comment to me in front of my three precious boys, "you finally got your girl" with a huge smile on their faces.
ummm....how am i supposed to respond to that?
almost as helpful as "wow, you've got your hands full!"
i know they mean well...but i am over the moon for my boys and i don't want them getting the message that they were just tryouts until we got the prize.
no, ma'am.

i do however appreciate when sweet people say, "you've got some good helpers."
yes, i do.
they are blessings and i am so happy to have my hands full with them.

#3 last night at dinner, we're doing highs and lows.
i say that my high is having a really nice, peaceful home school day.
i say that my low is sawyer disobeying and throwing fits.
sawyer says, "that's my high."
awesome.

#4 this post Parenting: It's Never An Interruption  is so good.
it's worth the 5 minutes it will take you to read it.
i've been mulling it over and it was just what i needed to read this week.
convicting and reframing my thoughts.

#5  this little beauty has been sick on and off all winter.
hoping she is building up one heck of an immune system.
is it time for spring yet??
we are ready. ;)

#6 so far our home schooling days are going much better this semester.
we seem to have gotten in a really good groove and we're all enjoying it.
i am thankful.

okay i think that's all for now.

happy tuesday, y'all!
meet me back here tomorrow to find out who has a hot pair of leggings heading their way!

thrift store thursday

you know what is my favorite?
thursday mornings at the thrift store.
you can find me there {and the other regulars} every week.
thursday mornings are the day that the 50% stuff goes to 50 cents a piece and the 25% off stuff goes to 50% off.
it's a good day to be thrifting.

thursday mornings are the one time in a week that i am totally alone.
i go hard and fast and try to get all my errands done in that 3 hours.
but my most favorite thing is to get a coffee and head to the thrift store.

i have found so many great things that it's hard for me to shop retail anymore.
plus i think there's so much more character in a good, vintage find.

wanna see what i got today?

three sweet little boy ties, perfect for easter {97 cents each}.

little boy clothes in perfect condition.

three things for me...a fleece, a sparkly sweater and a dress.
i think i paid $4.50 for all three together.

this vintage, tweed hat is from last week but i looooove it so i had to share.
finley looks like a little stud muffin in it. :)

two vintage ties went directly to the booth.

an old wooden drawer for 99 cents makes a great display for fabric.

not pictured, an awesome, looks like it's never been used, backpack for one of the boys.

it was a good haul. :)

what about y'all? have you been thrifting lately? find anything good?
