thrifted thursday

so....sorry, i kind of abandoned thrifted thursday.

turns out, being wife and mom to four kids and homeschooling part time, and feeding these people and making sure they have clean clothes and trying to keep our house picked up and be a good friend and daughter and love the people around me...and trying to do all of that well.... it takes a lot of time. ;)

also, as you can imagine, those things have to take priority over me sharing my thrifting adventures.
as much as i love blogging and it is therapeutic for me, sometimes it has to take a back burner to life.
and i'm good with that.
thanks for hanging in there with me. :)

so onto the thrifting.
now that school is back in sesh and all my kids are doled out around town one morning a week, i can do some thrifting again.

i *love* the feeling of pulling up at the ph thrift on a thursday morning right at opening.
there's always a line of people. always.
even better if i have a cup of coffee in my hand.

i am crazy over these vintage curtains i found...at a yard sale actually.
i haven't decided what i'm going to do with them yet.
the pattern and the colors are just so perfect that i have to really think this out.
such a happy find.

my mom brought this gorgeous old quilt for my booth.
i had to force myself to bring it to the booth...i l-o-v-e old quilts.

found these sweet old jars at the thrift.
i think they're about 2 quarts.
kept one, put one in the booth.
i think it will be the perfect juice pitcher. :)

i've been looking for a bed skirt for avery's bed for a while now.
last week i found this nautica blue plaid number that is perfect...now we don't have to see all the junk he's shoved under his bed from the door way.
i think it was $2. boom.

i grabbed this for 99 cents to paint and use to hang art work or photos.

i love finding ties at the thrift store.
AJ took one and i've been using one as a belt. :)

i usually don't look at the clothes because i don't love digging through so much but i did spot these levis that are so soft and comfortable and have pretty much been my uniform lately.
that was a super happy find.
i also found that banana republic red shirt and that fun woven belt...that i wore on sunday....see below. :)

btw, ruby's entire outfit, save her headband, is from rhea lana's.
i really, really love having a dress up doll. :)
also p.s. my jeans are from plato's closet and my shoes are 17 year old j.crew heels from my senior year in high school.
wow. we are some thrifty girls over here. :)

soooo.....have y'all been thrifting lately?
i'd love to see your finds if you want to link up in the comments. :)

Thrifted Thursday {with a link up}

hi y'all. :)

i have loved having a flea market booth for the last 9 months.

with my crazy busy life, full up of taking care of four kiddos and all that comes with that, i was a bit nervous to add anything extra to my plate.

it has turned out to be exactly what i hoped it would be....easy, fun & profitable.
yay. :)

the only hard part has been that it is on the complete opposite side of town from where i live.
that wouldn't be a huge deal, but i literally have nothing else going on over there so it just feels like i'm driving out to half of forever to get there.
always had to make a special trip.
every time i drove out there, i would pray that God would open something up closer to me.

so a few weeks ago i was standing outside talking to my neighbor friend about all this and she told me that she saw a sign for a new place opening up.
!!!!!!!!!
yay! just what i'd been praying for! :)

anyhow, i got right over there and signed up.
i cleaned out my old booth a few days later.
it was hard to leave that place since they had been so good to me but i am so excited about the new place.
it's really close so i should be able to just stop by when i'm out and about. :)

sooooo, if you're in northwest arkansas, it's called fayetteville's funky yardsale, and it will be open august 15. :)
i think it will be a great place to shop...it's huge and there are some great vendors that i know of already. :) yay.

okay...so since this is thrifted thursday, i want to show you a fun little project.

so this really cool frame isn't technically thrifted but my mom brought it back from my grandpa's house earlier this summer.
it's old so that counts. ;)

i knew i wanted to do something fun with it.
then when i had my annual college girls' weekend, my friend jackie, gifted us each with a 1corinthians 13 art print so i knew that would be a great piece to use with this frame.

i had a spray painting party in the front yard and gave the frame a few good coats of teal.

thankfully the print fit perfectly and gave that old from a new life. :)

i love having scripture on the walls and i had been wanting to have this particular verse up for a while.
the kids and i refer to it often. ;)

have y'all been thrifting lately? show us your scores!

homemade laundry detergent because i'm granola like that

hi y'all!
hope you had a great weekend.
i sure the heck did. :)

okay, so i promised you deets on my homemade laundry detergent.
here's the story morning glory....

i have been wanting to make my own laundry soap for like, ever.
i kept procrastinating because i am such a researcher and wanted to sit down and research all the different options and pick the best/right one.
welp. i got waylayed by the end cap display at walmart.
it was a big tower o' borax calling my name.
i'm such a sucker for marketing.

anywho, i just decided to look up a recipe right there in the walmart aisle and buy whatever it said.
i'm so spontaneous.

i knew i wanted powder so i just clicked on the first pretty picture of powder detergent i saw and went with that. :)
the stuff sat on the counter for a few days until i could get to it.
in the meantime, i did sit down and research several recipes online.
i chose powder b/c it seems like less mess and less storage and i like the way it looks in a jar. :)

the recipe i landed on uses all of the ingredients in the pic above.
i did see many recipes that just used borax, bar soap, &; washing soda.
i may try that next time....we'll see how this works out.
i also saw several recipes with different soaps like zote, ivory, etc.
so you can play around with that part.
i will probably try zote out next time....which is hopefully a long time from now. :)

there are a bazillion tutuorials for homemade laundry detergent out there but if you want to try what i did, i used:

76 oz. box borax
55 oz. box washing soda
4 lb. box baking soda {on the laundry aisle}
3 bars fels naptha
1.5 {ish} pounds oxi clean (i used about 1/2 of that 3 lb. tub)

i grated the bars of soap on the finest part of my cheese grater.
this was totally mindless and easy.
i did it while watching dumb television. ;)
maybe not the best use of my brain cells, but oh well.
i wanted it super fine so i put the shreds through my mini chopper.
{this is what i use to chop all onions with and it saves my sanity}.
you don't have to do this step, but i am particular like that. :)
i found that some people just did the grating and some people just put it through their food processor.
whatever you have will be fine, i'm sure....i just wanted it to be nice and fine.

also, every time i put some of the shredded bar soap into my chopper i added a spoon or two of baking soda to keep it from clumping up in there. this worked like a charm.

so this is how it looks all shredded and processed.
i poured the rest of the big box of baking soda into this bowl and mixed that all up.

to mix the whole batch up, i poured this and everything else into a clean kitchen trash bag.
i actually double bagged it just to be safe.
i used a wooden spoon to stir it all up and then i pulled it out of the trash can and rolled it around and mushed it to get it all mixed up.

it honestly was super easy and you only use 1-2 Tbs. per load so it should last me for a while.
which i need since there are six of us crazies in this house. :)

let me know if you try it or if you already do this and have some tips for the rest of us! :)

feel free to pin and share! :)

Thrifted Thursday #3!

hey friends!  it's time for thrifted thursday!!

so i braved the thrift store this morning with 3 of my kids.
we had a big pep talk on the way over.
2 of the 3 got with the program.
little miss ruby was in no mood, so i did what every great mom does and stuffed candy in her face.
in my defense, one of the candies was an organic sucker.
so pretty much a health food. pretty much.

okay onto the thrifting!!

first up....suuuuper exciting.
i found this {what looks like} a vintage school house light fixture.
if it's not vintage and you can get it at home depot, don't burst my bubble.
i love it.
anyway....i'm hoping we can rig it up somehow for one of the light fixtures in our house.
anyone know how to do this?
if not, it will go to the booth.
but i had to get it because it was....wait for it.....
50 cents. boom.

next up...beautiful, coral, round table cloth.
i had to get it because it's coral...so that's a given.
but also, it was $1.50.
i'm thinking i will use it somehow for ruby's birthday....which is coming up next month!! {holy cow, baby girl will be two!}

okay this is not super exciting but we always need flashlights and i'd rather pay 50 cents for it than whatever it costs at walmart. i have no idea.
plus we have a campout next month and flashlights are obviously a necessity.

can't pass up a nearly full can of spray paint for 99 cents.
hello lover.

what have y'all thrifted this week???

i'd love for you to link up your posts.
*link up your specific blog post
*i'd love for you to link back here with either a text link or a button from my side bar. :)

a super quick do-over

hi y'all.
welp. it's hotter'n blue blazes over here {to steal a phrase from my lovely groom}.
i'm sitting on the back porch sweating my face off while ruby does this:

never mind, now she's putting dirt from a plant into the citronella candle.
this child doesn't sit still.
she also fancies herself to color me with sidewalk chalk and put dirty water from her "pool" into my hair.
:)

anyhoooo...... i wanted to show you my fav-o-rite thing i've been making lately for gifts...

i love them!!!
and i love making them!!
i've been making all shapes and sizes, depending on what jars i find up in my cabinet.
now i'm going to have to go thrifting for more jars. darn. ;)

also, i did a super quick diy on our shoe {storage} bin this afternoon.
this morning i noticed that the burlap was getting a bit ratty.
remember when i re-did the storage bench a couple of years ago?
{it was a fabulous craig's list find.}

you know burlap doesn't last forever and the handle is long gone.  :(
boo to that, but that means it's well used.
we use that bin every day, several times a day.
it's so functional for us.

we stopped by hob lob today and i grabbed up some gray chevron fabric for $4.

sawyer wanted to help me with the project immediately so as soon as i got ruby down for nap we went to it...working as fast as we could.

i love this kind of simple reupholstery.
so quick and satisfying. plus i love using a staple gun. :)
also, when i get sick of the chevron, it's such a simple thing to slap another fabric on top.

it sure makes me happy.
sure, the wicker could use another coat of spray paint, but why?
three boys getting in and out of it every day...it's fine. :)

every pair of my boys' shoes stay in that bin.
i'm telling you that is one of the best things i've done.
that's a happy little entry way right there. :)

Thrifted Thursday {on friday}

oh my word.
i get the lamo blogger award.
yeah. i totally forgot to do thrifted thursday yesterday!
like, it never even crossed my mind.
ha.
my brain has gone to mush. that's all there is to it.

we have had a really fun, very summery week this week.
it's blazing hot....just the way i like it.
AJ has worked late several nights, but it's been okay.
we've spent a bunch of time outside and i have the bug bites to prove it. ;)

okay on to my thrifted finds...

oil painting in original frame.
this pic doesn't do it justice....i'll just tell you....it's awesome. :)
and it's large.
this is another item my friend stacy brought me from cleaning out her grandma's house.
i may find a spot for it in our room...if i figure out what i'm doing in there.

my mom brought me this sweet little book that she found while thrifting.
aaah...i love it.
i love old books.
this one just has such a sweet cover and it's the original edition...1881!!!
so cool.

i love an old book with an inscription....gives life to the book.

the boys and i discovered pressed flowers in it this morning...so. cool!
makes me wonder about dorothy and why those flowers were precious to her. :)

mom also brought me these vintage bingo cards.
i die.

i found this vintage floral plate at the thrift store for 50 cents.
it says england 1551 on the back. crazy.
i added it to my ever evolving plate wall in the dining room.

i plan to keep adding to it over time.
i love my house to look like it's been collected over time...i think that makes it so cozy. :)

my mom brought me these goldtastic mirrors to spray paint for my booth.
i thought i'd try them on my wall in the dining room and i like them! :)
i may not love them forever but they make me happy right now.
thanks mom!

so it's friday and we have nothing going on so i may try to get out and do some yard saling this morning.
with my four kids....it may be crazy!
i might need to stop by the bank and get them free popcorn for their troubles.  :)

have a great day y'all. :)

i LOVED seeing your fun thrifted finds from last week!!!!
won't y'all join me again?? :)

thrift store thursday

hey y'all. :)

welp. i missed thrift store thursday last week because it was the boys' last day of school slash field day.
busy day.
i'm not sure how my thrifting schedule will go now that school is out, but rest assured it will get done.
one way or another.  :)

so here are a few of my thrifted finds from the past week . . .

i have a thing for old hymnals.
i grew up singing out of a hymnal and i lovelovelove hymns.
i am so glad that i have 2 hymnals from the church that i grew up in.
i found this pretty vintage hymnal last week for the booth.

vintage moustache mug, was actually my grandpa's. . .  also in the booth.

vintage button collection {another one of my favorites} also in the booth. :)

and now things get weird.
are you wondering what the heck i was thinking?
first of all....i think it's kind sad/weird/creepy when people donate old frames with the photo in them.
surely someone wants to keep that pic???
oh well....to each their own, i guess.

anyhow....i actually paid 50 cents for each of those frames.
i needed an 8X10 piece of glass for a frame that i already had but the glass broke.
and i needed a square frame for another pic....and obviously i spray painted it. ;)

this is a the frame that needed the glass.
the print is from jones design company....and this is also heading to the booth tomorrow. :)

i stopped by an estate sale last week and found these gorgeous vintage pillowcases.
i love the hand detailing.
they are in perfect condition and were 50 cents each!
such a happy score.
these went to our bed. :)

also at the estate sale, i found this beautiful vintage frame for 50 cents.
love the antique gold. so pretty.
i found this frame in a box of frames...the majority of which were not pretty.
this goes to show you, you have to be willing to dig!
you never know what treasures you'll find. :)

i had this one year pic of ruby printed at sam's and i plan to add it to our gallery wall. :)

okay so those are a few of my finds this week.
yay for thrifting!!!

thrift store thursday

today was a great thrifting day. :)

okay first things first, i told you i'd show you the after of the lamp redo i did last week.

she's lovely.
remember her before?

and after . . .

oh man i dig that glossy gray spray paint.

doesn't that just make you happy?
i love it.

okay now for today...first i ran to ph thrift {obviously} and i walked out with this chandelier for . . . wait for it. . .  50 cents.
FIFTY CENTS. 50. half a dollar. 50.

okay not a great picture but it's the same as this:

it's the same kind of fixture that i redid for a chandelier two houses ago and one for ruby's room.

i actually got it for my friend, erin.
i already took the shades off and we will turn the arms facing up, spray paint it, and add chandy light bulbs.
50 cents is definitely a chandelier record.

next i drove to my hometown to hang out & go thrifting with my sweet friend, jenny.
jenny and i have very similar tastes so it is really fun to go thrifting with her.

okay not the best pic of us {it was cold & drizzly out}, but it's documented. :)

we went to a fun store called the chicken coop.
i had to snap a pic of these sweet scrappy garland.

so cute!
reminds me of the the fabric scrap garland that i made for ruby's first birthday party.
i think i will make something similar for our living room.

jenny spotted this awesome, chippy, metal rack for me!
5.99, yes. please.

i already hung it up in our kitchen. . . by myself.
so it will probably fall down in a week, but i was so antsy to get it up.

i have no idea what i will put on it, but i love it. :)

i also found this solid, wood trunk for the boys dress up clothes.

like . . . it's super nice.
guess how much i paid for it?
$35. yep.  i am the thrifting queen. :)
the lady at the front actually stopped us as we were hauling it out because she thought it was marked for $125.
she made us wait while she called to vendor!
i knew it was a steal, but thankfully $35 was the actual price so hooray for me!

avery and i hauled it up the stairs tonight so all those dress up clothes could finally find a home.
you know other than the beautiful rubbermade tub that they been hanging out in.

right outside the chicken coop was a big yard sale.
mostly it was too cold {hello what happened to spring?} but i did nab this cool old thermos for the booth.

okay, next up we hit vintage accents.
it's my favorite place to hit up...they have amazing vintage finds for really great prices.

look at this cool piece that would be an amazing coffee table......

i wanted to buy about 20 things but i walked away with two long pieces of barn wood.

they're about 5 feet long . . . see i'll prove it with a selfie....in the cold rain....that's how much i love you guys....or how weird i am to be hugging barn wood in the rain......

i plan to use them for shelving in the dining room.
can't wait!

it was such a fun morning, i can't wait to do it again.
jenny and i are dreaming of a much longer thrifting excursion in the future...two hours just isn't enough. :)

happy thrifting, y'all!!
p.s. what have y'all found lately?
