in which i make fun of myself.

in looking through my big, unorganized box of photos this morning, i stumbled across this gem.
who's that hottie?
you're jealous.

yeah, that's me, circa 1989 (i think).
6th grade.
avery saw this picture and asked if i was in 2nd grade.
thanks, buddy.

i loved that jacket.
i vividly remember picking it out at jcpenney.
i thought it was so cool.
you know you love my acid wash jeans.
and my claw bangs.
i remember thinking i looked so rad in this outfit.
i went to a soccer game with some friends and i was walking down the hill holding the jacket over my shoulder with one finger.

yep.
then i asked my friend if she wanted to carry my jacket for me because i was sure she would want the privilege of carrying my awesome jacket.
i was so thoughtful.
she said no.

  1. My 2nd grade self is totally jealous of those jeans and jacket! I was still in my neon leggings and jelly shoes phase totally looking up to cool 6th graders like you.

  3. Wow, way to bring back those memories! I'm a couple years older than you ('89 = 8th grade) but, boy, do I remember those styles!!! When I was in 7th grade, there was nothing I wanted more than an ESPRIT bag; big, cloth, over the shoulder bag to carry school books. I used birthday money to get one and LOVED it. Do you remember those? Just curious. I always wanted a jean jacket and never got one. Oh, the memories. I actually loved middle school (7th, 8th grade) and have very great memories of it!

  9. Okay, I giggled out loud on this one. To the point that little tears sprang from my eyes. Gotta love the 80's. I mostly love the expression on your face. So. Cool.

  10. I agree with the Finley comments. I had to stop and think for a moment whose face that was with long hair- totally Finley! I would have been so jealous of you too. :)

  13. This made me laugh really hard. At least you HAD bangs. My mother wouldn't let me cut them, so I just scraped a few really long hairs out of my super tight pony tail and hair sprayed them into a ginormous transparent wave my mom affectionately referred to as "the lizard 'do" I always wanted claw bangs.
