a quick trip with my hottie.

this weekend aj and i went to kansas city.
all. by. ourselves.
we left early saturday morning and got back last night.
my parents and little sis watched the boys.
it was the first time we'd gone away over night since sawyer was born.
that's just crazy. we usually try to get away for at least a night, once a year.

our anniversary is in december which is just a crazy time of year, obviously.
so aj planned this little trip for us as a late anniversary get away.

we stayed in a bed & breakfast right off the plaza.
bed & breakfasts are fun. . . and quirky.
i love the homey & peacful feel, no t.v., big ol' yummy breakfast,  coffee & cookies before bed, etc.
but there's always something quirky.
like when you call down & ask for an iron and they say, sure, they'll just set that up in the kitchen for you.

okay...

or like the complimentary sherry.

that seemed like the strangest thing. sherry.
i didn't get past the first sip.
i'll tell you, it smelled exactly like nail polish remover and i'm pretty sure that's what nail polish remover  would taste like as well.
nasty stuff.

on saturday we hung out with mel's brother dave & his wife, holly.
they live & work with Bhutanese refugees in downtown KCK.
it was good to reconnect with them hear about their missional lifestyle.
we even got to go into a Bhutanese family's home and ate goat! that was a first for us for sure!

it was hard to be away from the boys.  i had to purposefully focus on the fact that i am with them all the time and this was my & aj's time together.  my life is wrapped up in being a mama, it's hard to separate myself from that.

we did so enjoy ourselves though.  we slept in, took a nap, walked around the plaza, drove around beautiful historic neighborhoods, ate too much, read & just loved being together.

i'm so thankful to be married to my aj.  he is my best friend and we have a blast together.  i'm glad i get to share this life with him. i do not take it for granted.

plus, it helps that he's a looker.
