stuff

1. this is from Jesus Calling yesterday:
"I have called each of My children to a different path, distinctly designed for that one.  Do not let anyone convince you that his path is the only right way.  And be careful not to extol your path as superior to another's way.  What I require of you is to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with Me- wherever I lead."

isn't that so good?
let's marinate on that shall we?

2.  i love how in the summer my face is tan so the only makeup i wear are these three items:

cover girl simply powder foundation.
i carry it in my purse and put it on when we're on the way to wherever.

NYC lippin large lip plumper in plum tart.
love this stuff.

cover girl lash blast mascara ~ regular, not waterproof
this is the best mascara.
higher oz. than most and just works really well.

you can see i am a walmart/target makeup kind of gal.
i haven't found any department store makeup that i like more, so this is what i stick with. :)

3.  i have 9 weeks of pregnancy left!! holy cow, that's exciting!

4.  we're moving sawyer into the "big boys" room this weekend.
that should be an adventure.
i'm super excited to have a blank slate for baby sister's room.
i can't wait to watch it come together.

5.  question: where do you save all your pictures & files?
online?
external harddrive?
both?
i need some good/easy suggestions.

  1. For pictures, I've really struggled with that one. We have a mac now (which I love all the photo capabilities on this thing!) and someone bought us something called a 'time machine' for it that backs it up ever so often. I'm not really sure how it works, but it's supposed to hold TONS of photos!

  3. I have a folder for each month of the year & at least once a month I'll download my photos & put them in the correct folder. I know that November 2010 has shots from what we did that month, July 2010 has summer pics & so on. Sometimes I'll make a separate folder for special occasions like Christmas or a vacation that I have tons of shots of...otherwise that month can get a little too bogged down. When I had folder by weeks or days it was waaaay too much to have to go into each folder in order to browse. 12 months or so worth of folders per year is much more doable. Just don't forget to list the year! Good luck!

  7. That mascara is my all time fav.
We are reeeeallly bad about backing our photos up. We just have them all saved in iphoto but we're thinking about getting an external hard drive to back them up.

  9. Hi Sara, I'm perusing your blog looking for pictures of your big chalkboard. I saw this post, and felt compelled to comment. :)

Here's how I save/organize my photos (just in case you're still looking for ideas):

    1. I create a folder for each year, and then a folder for each month within it. Within the month folders, I usually create a favorites folder where I copy/paste photos I know I want to blog or scrap. At the end of each month, I go through and rename all the photos according to the date they were taken (YYYY-MM-DD). I select all the photos that belong to the same date, and rename them all at once. Windows automatically adds a number after my file name so it ends up looking like this: 2011-07-04 (1). If I make any edits, I save a new file with a note at the end (for example: 2011-07-04(3)-fix). That tells me that I want to use the fixed version of photo number 3 that was taken on the fourth of July. Does that make sense? It sounds confusing when I try to type it all out. :)

    2. I have a Flickr Pro account ($25/year for unlimited space) where I back up all my photos. It won't let me keep the exact folder organization that I currently have, so I just name each folder like this: YYYY/MM Month (2011/07 July). I reall like Flickr. It's easy to find photos (especially if you use their tagging system), and super easy to get them off Flickr and back onto your computer if you need to. It's also a great way to share photos with family members. I love that I can set the images to "private" or "family only" or "anyone". So far, it's really user-friendly. They have free accounts also, but if you're going to upload a lot of pictures, you'll need a pro account.

    3. I also have an account through Crash Plan (an online storage site). It does automatic backups for the folders I have chosen from my hard drive. It will back up your whole computer, but that would take like a year, so I just chose one photo folder at a time, and slowly added them all in. It costs $5/month for the plan I have. It will also manage automatic backups to another computer or an external hard drive, which is free.

    3. I also just bought an external hard drive. Walmart has a 500 gb Western Digital "My Passport" for around $70. I'm running out of hard drive space on my computer, so my plan is to move photo folders to the EHD after I back them up on Flickr, and then delete them from my main hard drive (scary, I know!).

Wow, after I typed all that up, I'm realizing that I actually (finally) have a pretty good layered system of protection for my photos! Woo-Hoo!

Sorry for the EXTREMELY long comment. :)
